It is invariably due to the specific batch of paper I am using. I have no idea why your printer won't complete the standard 2-step printout procedure.

But, God is Great! I am still hoping to disable color when printing from internet files, because if there happens to be half a page of deep green printing it depletes the green well tremendously. The prinfer black covered band below the wider white band that pulls the cartridges has worn bare and for several jobs dropped chips of that covering on my work; now I see that besides going bare, the edges are also frayed, and the cartridges no longer come to the center when I open the front lid.

Our c no longer will print color in draft mode.

Have you ever cleaned that little piece of fairly transparent plastic strip that the ink head rides on? The dispenser, with a long, narrow snout, was ideal, but I don't prniter something that attacks the plastic or will eventually find its way onto the copies. There is one Torx T10 screw in the front of the service station holding it in place. Complaints of such problems began as soon as XP was introduced. For me, having crisp text is a top priority and the HPC is tops in this. My works great but it runs a blank page thru before it prints.
